The three modes at launch
| Mode | What it is | Deep dive |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign | The Korean Peninsula invasion story, playable a week early with digital pre-orders. | Campaign |
| Multiplayer | 12 six-vs-six maps, Kill Block, Ground War, the Ballistic Authority gunplay overhaul. | Multiplayer |
| DMZ | A rebuilt extraction-style experience in the Hajin Exclusion Zone, with an FOB progression loop. | DMZ |

Warzone is separate, and stays that way
Warzone continues as its own free-to-play game with a new map called Hajin, tying into the DMZ setting. From Season 1, Warzone integrates MW4 content and season progression. Infinity Ward's studio leadership has been direct about the relationship: DMZ does not replace the battle royale; the two run in parallel inside and alongside MW4.
Zombies: the honest answer
Zombies has not been announced for Modern Warfare 4. It appears in no official mode list, no blog section and no store description. Previous Modern Warfare titles shipped without it, and the mode space this year belongs to the DMZ rebuild. If Activision reveals a zombies mode, this page changes the same day. Until then, any page claiming confirmed zombies is simply wrong.
Things every mode has in common
- Persistent online connection is required for multiplayer (including Private Matches) and DMZ, because of texture streaming.
- Progression is shared where it makes sense: pre-order skins and the Gilded Pearl camo carry across MW4, Black Ops 7 and Warzone.
- Season 1 starts in November 2026, when BlackCell content activates. Editions page.
